How this data was collected — and what it doesn't tell you

Be honest with yourself about what this is: a community survey, not a census. Use these numbers as directional, not definitive. Here's exactly what they include and exclude.

Sample size
1,072 responses

Collected via a voluntary Google Form in late 2024 / early 2025, promoted in the This is an IT Support Group Facebook community and newsletter. After dropping 18 responses with unparseable or missing base-salary values, aggregates on this page are computed from 1,054 usable responses.

Selection bias
Community skew

Respondents come from a Facebook community of 160K IT pros — heavy on help desk, sysadmin, and MSP, lighter on FAANG / high-end cloud roles. Numbers here will under-represent the top of the market and over-represent the working middle of IT.

Self-reported
No verification

Salaries, titles, and locations are entered by respondents. There's no W-2, no employer check. A handful of entries look off (way too high or too low); the parser filters the obviously broken ones but some noise remains.

Role categories
Heuristic buckets

Respondents wrote freeform titles ("Systems Engineer II", "IT Guy", "Director of Infrastructure"). We group them into 9 categories using keyword matching. It's imperfect — e.g. "Software Engineer" falls into "Other IT" which is why that bucket is large.

Geography
US-heavy

Most respondents are in the United States. The "by state" table is US-only; non-US entries are included in overall medians and the map but excluded from state-level breakdowns.

Map vs. aggregates
Slight drift

The map in the unlock section uses a pre-geocoded snapshot taken a few weeks before the aggregates. Pin count (~1,110) is slightly different from aggregate count (1,054). Same respondents, different export times.
