Staff Network Security Engineer

This senior network-security role is a strong match for IT Support Group readers who secure cloud, backbone, edge, and datacenter infrastructure. You would serve as a technical leader for DigitalOcean’s global network security architecture while building automation and partnering closely with network engineering teams.
What you would work on:
- Define network security architecture standards and review infrastructure or product changes.
- Lead threat modeling, intrusion-detection work, protocol analysis, and network security assessments.
- Build security automation, tooling, and infrastructure-as-code to validate posture and enforce controls.
- Integrate security controls and telemetry with SDN, BGP/MPLS, and network-automation platforms.
- Participate in network security incident response and promote reusable practices through documentation and tooling.
Good fit if:
- You have 8–10 years in network security engineering, network penetration testing, or security-focused infrastructure roles.
- You understand Layer 2/3/4 protocols, DDoS defenses, secure network design, and routing or DNS security.
- You have experience with BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, SDN, firewalls, Linux, and network intrusion detection.
- You can automate with Python or Go and work with Git-based workflows.
- You have used observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack and can guide cross-functional technical work.
